Farm Frame

We created a low cost, modular shelving, retail, & space system, for urban farms.

Working in a small team, we partnered with Greensgrow Urban Farm to identify an observed problem & devise a solution. Due to the nature of growing cycles, community & education events, & busier retail periods during the year, we discovered a need for a low cost, easy to use, & flexible modular system that segmented space as well as provided value & space from a retail standpoint. 

We developed a two option solution that leverages hinged wooden pallets, which are commonly found at most urban farms. The low cost option was an easy to produce universal wooden bracket that offered a lot of necessary versatility without the need of additional hardware. The slightly more costly hinged solution offered more of a permanent solution. The natural geometry of the structure keeps the frames securely weighted while simultaneously the angle of the shelving allows for even distribution of sunlight for plants. When the system is not in use, the palettes can be stacked to maximize space efficiency. 

We created an open source manual with step by step instructions, costs per mechanism, troubleshooting, & additional resources.
